Verweij for “Intima” Amsterdam, 1920s It’s quite rare to find pieces that still carry their original metal plates - and this one is particularly special, as ''Intima'' is a rarely encountered one. A second matching one is available. Upholstered in light bouclé texture fabric with soft shifts in color that brings the piece to life - like revealing its character. The logo of the PAN Amsterdam this year reminded me that I still have this Studio Superego “DNA” lamp 😊 A glowing solid tower of stacked, laminated acrylic glass, joined into a luminous mosaic that shifts from yellow/orange to neon red as the light moves through it. Set on a polished brass plinth, the piece reads like architecture at night: graphic by day, radiant by evening. This piece was custom made on our request by Studio Superego. SUPERSTUDIO 🥰 well deserve to be written in capitals. Their Quaderna series was the only thing actually made. Ever since I first saw those strange pictures of furniture amidst cows and green fields, I was obsessed 😃 The bench or coffee table in the video and a couple of pictures is our newest aqcuisition - a 1st edition from the Quaderna series 😊 Radical and rare piece of design history. The architectural collective Superstudio was founded in Florence in the late 1960's. Instead of actually building they created “anti-architecture”: psychedelic renderings, collages and films depicting their dreams - and their nightmares. At museum exhibitions, the collective shared its mind-bending dystopic visions: large gridlike structures buildings overtaking cities, giant pyramids and flying silver pods invading the countryside. They also imagined the earth with no architecture at all, just “Supersurface,” a grid network that would replace objects and buildings - which people could access by simply plugging in. Vermeulen (1913-2013) often did things a little different, touching the borders of possibilities within the rules and conventions. A 1930s suite with a very special provenance 🌟 In the early 1930s, Truus Schröder, who at that time, had just started an architectural firm together with Gerrit Rietveld helped a befriended couple to modernize their house. The new interior consisted of o.a. this modernist dining set with an extendable table. There was also a large bookcase with yellow insides, a desk with red accents and a ''Berlin'' style chair the family called a ''sowing chair'' which is now in the US with one of the descendants. Funny detail is that one desk chair was ''improved'' with slats around turned wood parts to conceal and make it fit in with the rationalist new furniture. Was Rietveld himself involved in this design as well, as he was working with Truus at the time? We'll never know. The metal tags underneath these chairs and table reveal a furniture maker that is completely unknown (A.J. v. Groenestijn, Amersfoort). It can't have been his own signature design because he would have been extremely very famous in the present day with chairs like these :-D This was radical design in the 1930s. The backrests are hollow as well! Efficient and minimalistic, we love this set. After small restorations we'll show it off in the webshop. The pieces are very tactile, heavy in weight, and with a really nice patina, also inside the hollows on the king, queen and tower. A remarkably large and heavy Art Deco pedestal, made from partly real marble and in what seems to be cast stone (a mixture of granite, marble and resin) The piece is 117 cm (46 inch) high, the base is a 45 x 45 cm (17,7 inch) triangular shape and so is the top. A luminist and very atmospheric wintery landscape by Jacobus Doeser (Utrecht 1894- Heemstede 1979). Thick paint on cotton. Estimated 1920-1930s. Doeser lived a secluded life but has an extensive oeuvre. Doeser got more recognition after his painting ' A still life with white lilies' sold at Christies in 2001. In the 1910s Doeser came into contact with Piet Mondriaan and other 'ideaists', artists who depicted the forms of reality, but with a search for innovation. Some early work by Mondriaan shows the same kind of use of bright luminist colours. Doeser was also influenced by Van Gogh. This work was most probably painted on one of his travels, maybe Switzerland or in Germany, where Doeser lived in the 1920s. It has very thick paint. It is completely cleaned and professionally restored. Size outside is 117 cm x 97 cm. Title: ''Staande Vrouw'' (translates as ''Upright Woman'') Extremely large, ideal to fill an empty wall. See the size in comparison with a Zig Zag in some of the other pictures😊 The Amersfoort-born artist Jan Spronk (1920-1970) is known for his abstract style. His subjects were primitive cultures, animals still lifes and landscapes. His earlier artworks have characteristics of cubism. He mainly worked in Amersfoort, Amsterdam, Arnhem and Laren. Spronk was shortly taught by the Italian painter Francesco Ferraro. Later around 1942 he was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem. New in stock this mystery Zig Zag - a really well made 1930s one with perfect proportions and made of 2 mirrored slats of oak. It's different from the ones made by van de Groenekan, which didn't have dowels but brass screws and had three planks of wood. The dowel joints, the age (also confirmed by an expert) and the fact that it wasn't exactly made to resemble a Groenekan or Rietveld it makes one wonder.. Who made this? It is very old, it is perfectly shaped, stable and placed next to a Groenekan the silhouet matches 100%.
