Product Details
A very decorative Amsterdam School side table with the stepped rhythm of the Amsterdam School and some Mission-style influences. Strong lines and a solid presence - the piece stands like architecture. Hand crafted in solid oak with stepped details around the base and below the top; a round black painted top and a lower tier that is placed at exactly the right height - pleasing to the eye.
A perfect accent table that carries the architectural spirit of the 1920s into today. Great as a cocktail/drinks table but also very decorative on its own.
The Amsterdam School (c.1910–1940) is where Dutch architecture went expressive - brick turning sculptural, craft pushed to the fore. It spilled beyond buildings into sculpture, furniture and even urban planning. Think bold, organic forms, lavish ornament, and obsessive workmanship. Some of the big names : Michel de Klerk, Piet Kramer, J.M. van der Meij and sculptor Hildo Krop. The movement thrives on paradox: communal ideals with fiercely individual expression; modern ambitions with a medieval wink; exuberant, imaginative, and sometimes delightfully bizarre. Today it remains one of the most recognizable and loved Dutch styles worldwide.
