Modernist Steel Chair by Albert in 't Veld, 1980s
Modernist chair - artwork by the Dutch Albert in ’t Veld (1942- ) Rhythm and balance translated into form - distilled into a pure, geometric composition of welded steel.
The design reflects the artist’s lifelong fascination with movement, light, and structure. Albert in ’t Veld began his career as a dancer before studying visual arts and architecture in Seattle. Returning to the Netherlands, he developed a distinctive practice combining steel and neon light in his art.
The chair’s open frame and architectural clarity reveal his background in both visual arts and architecture, while its tactile surface carries the trace of the hand that made it - in between art and design - a dialogue of steel, space, and light.
The chair is in very good condition, very heavy and solid. It can be placed as an accent piece but it is also perfectly usable as a chair.
