Product Details

An antique chair, with an intricate, very attractive design, with modernist and Art Deco elements, also influenced by Die Wiener Werkstätte. It was brought to our attention by an expert in the field, that this chair has many characteristics in shape and use of inexpensive wood, that it might have been made by Piet Klaarhamer. There is no documentation so we can merely say it is in style of Klaarhamer.

Although it can still be sat on, we wouldn't advise to use it as a functional chair. It is much more suitable as an art object to enjoy and charish. For instance in an art galerie to add lustre to surrounding works of art. Or as a special feature in an out of the box interior. Also, great to stack some art books or catalogues on or to display a sculpture or vase on.

The chair is still stable but a little fragile and the original paint shows losses and flakes.

About Klaarhamer
Piet Klaarhamer (1874-1954) was a well-known Utrecht furniture designer and architect. Klaarhamer was much repected by Gerrit Rietveld, who considered Klaarhamer his mentor. Retveld and Klaarhamer were united by their preference for furniture with a visible construction and the honest use of simple, inexpensive materials.
Rietveld's earliest furniture designs, from the first decade of the 20th century, show a great similarity to those of Klaarhamer. From 1919 onwards, Klaarhamer designed furniture that is strongly related to Rietveld's red-blue chair
