Product Details
A small but weighty table or bedside lamp by Maison Desny, Paris, dating from the late 1920s to early 1930s. The piece embodies the atelier’s distinctive synthesis of modernist rigor and Art Deco refinement, placing it among the French avant-garde design from the interbellum period.
Maison Desny, founded by designers Desnet and René Nauny, was active only briefly but left a lasting impact on early modern design through its use of industrial materials, clean geometry, and architectural composition. This lamp, constructed from amber-hued glass slabs and nickel-plated metal, is a quintessential expression of that vision - a luminous object at once minimal and opulent, rational and decorative.
The lamp presents in very good original condition, with the glass free from chips or cracks and the metal surfaces retaining an attractive period patina. It is in working order and ready for display.
A rare and collectible example of Maison Desny’s lighting, representing a pivotal moment in the evolution of modern French design — where the spirit of the Machine Age met the elegance of Art Deco craftsmanship.
