A generously proportioned French Art Deco club chair, circa 1925, distinguished by a horseshoe-shaped silhouette and striking two-tone upholstery. The curved back flows continuously into broad arms, creating a sculptural form with considerable presence.
The chair has been reupholstered in richly textured mustard-golden fabric across the seat, inner back and arms, contrasted with black velvet around the exterior. The mustard tones take on a golden warmth in the light, while the velvet lends depth and a subtle sheen to the outer curve. Carefully defined piping follows the contours, emphasising the bold design. Black-finished wooden details provide a graphic counterpoint to the upholstery. Slender, tapered ornaments rise along the front of each arm, complemented by a black base rail and rounded bun feet. These accents give structure to the chair’s generous volume without interrupting its curves.
During reupholstery, examination of the internal construction and traditional filling materials supported a date of circa 1925. The renewed upholstery brings a fresh finish to this period piece, while the visible wooden elements show signs of its age.
