Product Details
An exceptional designed Haagse School armchair by Anton Lucas, Netherlands, circa 1925. This model is a clear and confident example of Lucas’s architectural approach to furniture design and a refined expression of Dutch Art Deco from the interwar period.
Crafted in solid oak, the chair is defined by its strong, rectilinear construction and carefully judged proportions. The frame features gently tapered legs, architectural armrests, and a subtly angled slatted backrest, creating a composition that is both disciplined and visually dynamic. The design balances robustness with refinement, a hallmark of the Haagse School movement.
The clarity of form and precision of joinery reveal Lucas’s background as an architect, with a focus on structure, geometry, and material integrity. The chair’s restrained ornamentation and graphic silhouette reflect the broader modernist tendencies of the period, with echoes of contemporary architectural influences.
Recently reupholstered in a high-quality textured light beige fabric, the seat complements the warmth of the oak and enhances the overall presence of the piece. The armchair is in very good condition and ready for immediate use.
A rare and authentic example of early 20th-century Dutch design, well suited as an accent or desk chair, and a distinctive addition to a curated interior or a collection with European modernist furniture
