Dutch Art Deco Tea / Drinks Cabinet, P.E.L. Izeren for De Genneper Molen, 1920s

The cabinet has a striking asymmetrical architectural composition, with a tall storage section to the left, a lower projecting cabinet to the right and a glazed upper section with sliding glass doors and the characteristic red stained inside. The restrained geometry, contrasting macassar ebony details and carefully balanced proportions are typical of the Dutch Hague School and give the piece a distinctly modernist character.

Originally conceived as a tea cabinet or tea buffet, it translates remarkably well into contemporary use as a compact drinks cabinet. The glazed section is ideal for glasses, while the lower cabinet and tall side compartment provide generous additional storage. Its relatively compact footprint makes it particularly suitable for a living room, study or lounge area.

The cabinet is executed in oak, oak veneer and macassar ebony details. It retains its original paper manufacturer’s label underneath the top. The model is listed as no. 283 in the original De Genneper Molen catalogue.

This example has been expertly restored, with great care taken to preserve the original character. The sliding glass doors, hinged doors and fittings function correctly, and the cabinet presents beautifully.

A particularly strong example of Dutch interwar design: practical, architectural and unmistakably Hague School.
