Product Details
A refined Dutch Art Deco side table from the 1920s, executed in solid oak with a striking cross-shaped base in solid macassar ebony. A very modernist design with architectural presence because of its strong geometry.
The circular top is supported by four upright legs that descend into a beautifully constructed base, where the darker macassar ebony adds depth, contrast, and a sharper modernist edge. At the centre of the lower tier sits a decorative macassar ebony inlay, a small but effective geometric accent that gives the table its distinctive character.
The design relates closely to the Dutch modernist tradition of the Hague School, where furniture became more restrained, geometric, and structural than the more expressive forms of the Amsterdam School. In that development, the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright was important. Dutch designers absorbed his sense of horizontality, balance, and architectural composition, creating furniture that feels deeply connected to the space around it. This table carries that idea beautifully.
A heavy, sturdy, and very well-made piece with warm oak tones, rich macassar contrast, and a commanding presence. Ideal as a side table, lamp table, or accent in a thoughtful interior.
Very good restored condition with minor signs of wear.
