Dutch Art Deco Modernist The Hague School solid oak floorlamp, 1920s

An elegant and architecturally conceived Hague School floor lamp, dating to circa 1925. A rare and timeless example of early 20th-century Dutch design, equally suited to a domestic interior or a curated gallery setting.

Executed in solid oak, this piece exemplifies the restrained character of early Dutch modernism and Dutch Art Deco, where form, structure, and material are held in careful balance.

The lamp is built around a tall vertical shaft composed of four oak planes arranged around a central core. At each corner, a black-lacquered square-section element, split longitudinally and applied as a corner fillet, articulates the junction between the planes. These dark accents emphasize verticality and introduce a subtle graphic rhythm, giving the column a distinctly architectural presence. The shaft features a nearly imperceptible conical taper, narrowing slightly toward the top, which lends refinement and lightness to the otherwise solid form.

Rising from a square, grounded base, the lamp has a strong sense of stability and weight, underscoring its original function as a durable, thoughtfully designed interior object. The design reflects the influence of De Stijl in its reduction to essential geometry, while remaining firmly rooted in the Hague School tradition through its use of natural materials and craftsmanship.

The lamp has been recently rewired and is fully functional. The modern and simple beige lampshade is for presentation only - since the wiring has been renewed, any modern lampshade will fit.

The lamp base measures 28 × 28 cm (approximately 11 × 11 inches), with a total height of 148 cm (approximately 58.3 inches), excluding the lampshade.
