Product Details
Stamped by N.E.M.I. Steenwijk, this oak occasional table dates to around 1925 and reflects the spirit of the Haagse School (The Hague School) and modernism.
Emerging in the interwar years, the Haagse School (The Hague School) was the Netherlands’ response to the broader European modernist movement. Emphasizing sober geometry, rationalism and functional clarity, it sought beauty not through ornament but through proportion, balance and utility.
This table exemplifies those ideals: clean-lined, formally balanced, and grounded by four striking black rectangular block feet—stark, architectural elements that speak directly to early modernist design. Their bold simplicity offers a striking counterpoint to the warmth of the oak, giving the piece a confident, minimalist presence.
Produced by N.E.M.I. - a Steenwijk-based firm known to have collaborated with sculptor Hildo Krop, this piece remains in very good lightly restored condition. Modest in scale, it serves equally well as a side table, plant stand, or display pedestal.
