Product Details
A modernist Art Deco pedestal, Netherlands, 1920s. Very rationalist design with clean lines and cubist details around the base. At the top there are two extendable smaller tabletops that slide out and when slided in, they still stick out a bit (with a built in stop inside) which gives a nice modernist accent. The space on the top is 30 x 30 cm ( 11.8 x 11.8 inches). The lower base is larger (see dimensions)
The pedestal is sturdy and stable, from thick oak veneered planks and it's quite a heavy piece, around the 12 kilograms. Condition is very good considering age and use. Some light signs of wear on the top.
Pictures are taken in natural light, sunlight and with a cubist sculpture on top to give an idea of the ways this pedestal could work in a space. It is very stable and sturdy and suitable to place a heavy sculpture or a buste on.
The style is Haagse School, a more sober Dutch Art Deco variant than Amsterdam School. Straight lines and rationalism are characterisctics of this style. The Dutch Haagse School architects like Hendrik Wouda, and Cor Alons were greatly inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.
