A Dutch modernist side or occasional table from the 1920s, designed in the architectural language of the Hague School.
The circular top and lower tier are supported by a rhythmic arrangement of broad vertical planes and slender uprights. Together with the cross-shaped base, they create a strong interplay of geometry, balance and open space. Compact in size yet sculptural in presence, the table reveals a different composition from every angle.
The warm, deep-toned wood softens the disciplined geometry, making the table particularly suitable as an occasional table / display table within a carefully composed interior.
Lightly restored and presented in very good, stable condition.
Background information: The Hague School
The Hague School emerged in the Netherlands during the 1920s. More restrained and functional than the expressive Amsterdam School, it was influenced by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Designers such as Hendrik Wouda, Frits Spanjaard and Jan Brunott developed a distinctly Dutch style characterised by geometric construction, balanced proportions and architectural form.
