Dutch Art Deco Asymmetrical Pedestal, 1920s

Product Details
An unusual Art Deco pedestal with a striking asymmetrical construction, dating from the 1920s.
The design is beautifully architectural: two rectangular platforms are placed at different heights and extend in opposite directions from a central vertical structure. This gives the piece a dynamic, modernist rhythm. The base anchors the design, while the offset tiers create movement and tension without becoming decorative in the obvious sense.
The wood has a warm reddish-brown tone, stained in a mahogany-coloured finish. The visible grain adds liveliness to the strict geometry.
It works beautifully as a pedestal for a vase, sculpture, plant or lamp, but also as an accent piece in its own right. Its narrow depth makes it easy to place in an interior, while the asymmetrical silhouette gives it much more presence than a conventional stand.
The pedestal is in very good, lightly restored condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period. It has been refreshed while preserving its vintage character.
Today, the pedestal integrates effortlessly into both historic Art Deco interiors and contemporary spaces. A rare and elegant example of Dutch modernist display furniture.
