Dutch Art Deco Amsterdam School stained glass lamp by De Nieuwe Honsel, 1920s

A highly decorative Dutch Amsterdam School pendant lamp by De Nieuwe Honsel, dating from the 1920s, executed in copper and curved kiln-painted glass in a vivid palette of amber, orange, red, black, and subtle blue. The softly domed shade is animated by flowing, elongated motifs that give the design rhythm and lift, while the dark fringe lends it a distinctly theatrical finish. The fringes have been reconstructed. The glass remains in excellent condition.

De Nieuwe Honsel was among the most distinctive Dutch glass ateliers of the period, celebrated for its so-called Pyrochrome glass: glass that was painted, fired, and bent into expressive decorative forms. In the early 1920s, under the influence of the Amsterdam School, the workshop moved from naturalistic decoration toward a more abstract visual language of curling lines, vivid contrasts, and parabolic forms.
