Product Details
A sculptural and highly characteristic Amsterdam School armchair from the 1920s, newly upholstered and with an authentic, not overly restored look.
This piece embodies the Dutch response to Art Deco - both architectural and ornamental - modernist in structure yet expressive in the organic shape of the backrest and the upholstery. The Amsterdam School movement was known for its powerful silhouettes, fine craftsmanship, detailing and symbolism.
The deep dark oak frame has a beautiful, natural patina, balanced by the fresh light upholstery that highlights the form in a bold and refined way. Note especially the triangular upholstered arm accents, finished with decorative studwork - a distinctive Amsterdam School gesture - and the small wooden locking keys on the sides.
This chair works beautifully as a statement accent piece - sculptural from every angle, calm yet undeniably present. It pairs well with both historical interiors and high-end contemporary spaces.
A rare authentic piece for collectors of early modern European design - and a stunning standalone element in any curated interior.
