Dutch Art Deco Amsterdam School accent table with a stepped design, 1930s
This 1930s accent table adds some Amsterdam School expressiveness with a hint of Bauhaus design with the black glass top. A very striking accent piece, also ideal to use as a drinks/cocktail table. It's a nice modestly sized table, 50 cm wide (around the 19,7 inch).
The black glass top (on a pressed wooden support) sits in a metal frame, resting on sculptural oak supports, cut in sharp steps and finished in deep black stain. A round lower tier completes the design.
Both functional and sculptural, this table embodies the shift in early 20th-century design thinking. The table legs are carved from oak, stained deep black, the stepped uprights rise in sharp rhythm before curving elegantly into shaped feet. Also note the nickel decorations at the side of each leg.
The black glass top gives the piece a clean, modernist finish. Originally made as a smoker’s table, today it reads as an architectural statement: graphic, sculptural, and distinctly of its time.
