Dutch Art Deco Amsterdam School Side Table nr.301 by P.E.L. Izeren, 1920s
Background about the manufacturer and designer
De Genneper Molen was originally a sawmill housed in an old water mill in Gennep. From around 1917, the firm began producing small furniture, including side tables, tea cabinets, umbrella stands and coat racks. These were described in their catalogues as “supplementary furniture,” yet they became the company’s most characteristic output. Izeren designed several models for the firm and remained connected to it until the late 1930s.
P.E.L. Izeren (1886–1943) designed numerous works for De Genneper Molen and remained with the firm into the late 1930s. Housed in a former watermill in Gennep, the company began as a sawmill before expanding around 1917 into the making of small furnishings—marketed in their catalogues as “supplementary furniture.” These refined tables, stands, and cabinets soon became the heart of their production, with Izeren’s distinctive sculptural designs among the most enduring contributions.
