A rare occasional side table in solid mahogany and macassar ebony details, 1920s, Dutch Amsterdam School. The table has an octagonal tabletop and characteristic macassar ebony (coromandel) droplet ornaments around the top. The lower part has nicely shaped rounded leg ends joined in a cross. These features give this table a distinctive and chique look. After almost 100 years it is still in very good condition, stable and sturdy with only minor signs of the time.
Similar tables were sold in one of the most famous department stores in the Netherlands ''De Bijenkorf''. A picture has been added to the photo presentation. The design has om several occasions been attributed to Hildo Krop but we haven't found official proof for this.
The table is very sturdy and constructively in very good condition, suitable to use as a plant pedestal, side table or lamp table.

The Amsterdam School started as a group of friends that took over power in the Amsterdam architectural society Architectura et Amicitia in 1916. Not being literally a school, the ''Amsterdam School'' was a movement in art and architecture. Followers such as Michel De Klerk, Hildo Krop, Piet Kramer, Joan van der Mey, Margaret Staal-Kropholler, Jan Gratama and Hendrik Wijdeveld had grand and political ideals to achieve innovative architecture and urban planning.
These Amsterdam School artists searched for new forms that matched their vision of society. It was time to break with old traditional forms. The Amsterdam School style is recognizable by their expressive use of color and materials and rich, imaginative decorations.
