Product Details
A Dutch Art Deco table lamp by Hans Steinpatz, executed in the warm, richly decorative batik technique for which he is well known. The spherical wooden lamp base is constructed from two half spheres, joined around the middle by a horizontal line. Its rounded form gives the piece a wonderful presence, like a glowing lacquered fruit, with deep reds, orange tones, ochre yellow and black floral decoration moving around the surface.
The lamp is clearly marked underneath with a faded but still legible label reading H.Steinpatz, Made in Holland.
Hans Steinpatz worked in a closely related visual language to L. Bogtman, and the names of both makers are often encountered together because their designs and techniques are so similar. Both produced handcrafted decorative objects in batik-decorated wood, often with an oriental-inspired character. Their table lamps and utensils, such as bookends, clocks and bowls are very sought after by collectors and interior designers.
The design sits beautifully within the Dutch Amsterdam School movement: expressive, handcrafted, decorative, and full of rhythm. The newly custom-made black conical shade gives the lamp a strong graphic silhouette and allows the colours of the base to stand out even more.
In good vintage condition with small traces of age and use. The shade is newly custom made. Dimensions base: Height, Width and Depth: 16 cm / 6.30 in. Total height with shade:45 cm / 17.72 in
