Product Details
An early 1960s brutalist tablelamp by Belgian goldsmith Willy Luyckx for Aluclair (and wears the label with both names inside the base). The base is made from thick aluminium in a tubular shape. The lampshade, which can come off, is also aluminium, but burned and welded and it has small holes through which, at nighttime, the light projects on the surrounding walls. The socket is made of white bakelite.
Willy Luycks started his own business in the 1960s. He also managed an art centre in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. Under the name Aluclair he produced a range of items in this brutalist style with burned aluminium; also chandeliers, tables and chairs and a range of lamps where the base has the burned and welded patterns. The ones with the welded shades are more rare. The Aluclair company was active in the 1960s and 1970s.
Condition is very good regarding its age. The aluminium is still shiny and there are few signs of use. Of course the lamp is meticulously cleaned. The lamp works with one large socket (E27). It has the original wiring in good working order. It's easy to replace the wiring for use with a different voltage.
