Product Details
A Dutch Art Deco occasional table from the 1920s, made in solid oak and executed with a wonderfully sculptural, organic character.
A generously sized occasional table with real presence. The round top has a warm oak grain and a softly rounded edge, giving the piece a refined and tactile quality. Beneath the top, the construction becomes more expressive: rounded legs, shaped supports and a circular central detail at the lower stretcher create a design that feels both architectural and flowing.
The table has the characteristic warmth of Dutch Art Deco from the 1920s, where strong construction and decorative detail meet in a very natural way. The rounded forms give it a softer, more organic expression than the strict cubist Haagse School pieces of the same period, while the clear structure and carefully balanced proportions keep it firmly modern.
The lower cross-stretcher is particularly charming, with its small circular centre element and slender horizontal rails. It gives the table lightness and movement.
Made in solid oak, the table is in good vintage condition with small signs of age and use. The wood has a warm colour and attractive grain. A distinctive Dutch Art Deco piece, ideal as a side table, occasional table, plant table or sculptural accent in an eclectic interior.

The Amsterdam School movement is seen as a very important chapter in Dutch architectural history and to this day a very recognizable and beloved style worldwide.

Influential architects and designers include Michel De Klerk, Hildo Krop, Piet Kramer en J.M. van der Meij.
The Amsterdam School embodies several contradictions. It is an architecture that is instantly recognisable yet difficult to define. It celebrates the communal and the social yet gives almost infinite room for individual expression. It can look hyper-modern yet curiously medieval. And, at its most creative, it can be utterly, infectiously bizarre.
Amsterdam School architects designed a lot of exteriors and interiors in Amsterdam, but the style spreaded further all around the Netherlands. The Hague has its own variant, called The Hague School.
